REMARKS

A challenging river for expert canoeists only. The rapids are long and sometimes difficult to read because the banks are very steep. Driftwood may be present downstream from some rapids. The portage bypassing the waterfall is dangerous.

VERY IMPORTANT: You must inform us at least 4 days in advance if you plan to go on Gens-de-Terre river so that we may inform Hydro-Québec about the presence of canoeists.

WE RECOMMEND:

10 km a day for novices

15 km a day for intermediates

20 km a day for experts

Sépaq Camping Lac Canimina or lac Nichcotea:

From Highway 117, take road 28 for 26 km to
Camping Lac Canimina or Camping Lac Nichotea;

60 km from Le Domaine.

POINTS OF INTEREST

This is a very diversified route. The section between
“Lac Darcy” and “Lac Carrière” is undeveloped and fairly secluded. Several types of obstacles, such as fallen trees and beaver dams, can block Carrière Creek. This is an excellent route for experienced canoe campers who don’t mind getting their feet wet.

REMARKS

You can begin the circuit at the Nichcotéa campground and end at the Carrière campground. This will shorten the circuit by 25 km (the 2 campgrounds are only 10 km apart).

WE RECOMMEND:

10 km a day for novices

15 km a day for intermediates

POINTS OF INTEREST

An excellent river to paddle; lots of wilderness and little difficulty. There are a few rapids for whitewater enthusiasts. Portages are in good condition, short; with little slope, which makes it ideal for less experienced canoe-campers. Ledge downstream from Lac Rocau (ideal for swimming, big flat boulders, beautiful campsites).

REMARKS

The section between Lac Nadeau and Lac Cambrai (25 km upstream of Lac Nadeau) is outside Reserve territory and is therefore not maintained.
